Angela L. Phillips, M.A., L.M.F.T.

Founder Angela Phillips is a licensed marriage and family therapist and has been practicing as a psychotherapist since 1997. She graduated with a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Minnesota and received a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from the University of San Diego. She is also an Adjunct Professor, teaching Theories of Personality and Psychotherapy, in the Graduate Psychology program at Azusa Pacific University in San Diego.

Angela is a member of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society recognizing her academic excellence and professional standing. She began her clinical experience at Rady’s Children’s Hospital, Outpatient Psychiatry department, and gained further expertise with children, adolescents and families working for the County of San Diego. She has co-facilitated social skills groups for latency age kids, developed and co-facilitated parenting groups for those with an oppositional child or adolescent, as well as parenting skills groups for those with children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

In 2001, she returned to Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry until pursuing private practice at PsyCare, a professional medical corporation. At PsyCare, Angela sought out to advance her expertise in Cognitive Therapy under the supervision of Chris Tammariello, L.C.S.W., one of the few San Diego therapists certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Angela has since become specialized in treating adults with depression, anxiety and panic, as well as treating children and adolescents.

Angela has lectured on the legal and ethical issues in treating children and their families at the San Diego University for Integrative Studies. She has also received advanced training in couples therapy through the Milton H. Erickson conferences, Challenging Couples, Challenging Therapists, in Los Angeles, California. Other professional affiliations include the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Lorena Arnold, M.S., L.M.F.T.

Lorena is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been working in the mental health field since 2001. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from UC Irvine, majoring in Psychology, and was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology from Cal State Fullerton. Her thesis addressed the effectiveness of coping strategies for dealing with negative mood states. Lorena brings a unique multi-cultural background to her practice with a holistic approach that integrates creative expression, spirituality and cultural sensitivity to the personal growth process.

Lorena has held counseling positions with the Health Center at Cal State Fullerton where she worked with college students and Scripps Clinic, Division of Mental Health, working primarily with adults and couples. Since 2007, Lorena has been a psychotherapist with Rady’s Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry, working with children, adolescents and families in addressing the effects of mental health issues on families. Lorena is fluent in Spanish and German and is especially adept at helping clients with acculturation. In addition to using Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in treating anxiety and depression, Lorena has also received additional training in the use of specific therapuetic techniques to address Asperger’s disorder, learning disabilities, school issues and parenting challenges.
